Australians love their beer – and now they can crack open a brew that’s 100 per cent carbon neutral.

A beer produced by Cascade Brewery has earned carbon neutral certification by Low Carbon Australia.

Cascade, owned by Carlton United Breweries, received certification for its Cascade Pure beer at a ceremony at this week’s Carbon Expo.

Cascade Breweries has had a sustainability program in place for more than a decade, and have made some significant improvements in their practices to minimise greenhouse gas emissions associated with beer production.

And the results speak for themselves.

The brewery emits more than 10 per cent less emissions (per unit of production) than it did 10 years ago.

In the same period, it has improved energy efficiency by nearly 20 per cent and increased its water efficiency by nearly 25 per cent (per unit of production).

Cascade also offsets the greenhouse gas emissions associated with Cascade Pure over its full lifecycle – from picking the hops to recycling the bottle.

Cascade has purchased accredited carbon offsets up-front to fully offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production, use and disposal of the beer.
