Bright idea helps club make savings
When it comes to making big savings on their energy bills, a youth club north of Sydney has seen the light.
The Central Coast Youth Club (CYCC) in Gosford expects to save tens of thousands of dollars per year after installing energy efficient lighting in its indoor sports areas.
The club replaced existing lighting over its basketball courts and other indoor locations with Australian-designed and manufactured multi-lamp high technology reflector lighting.
The new lighting system, installed at the beginning of the 2012, has cut the club’s energy use by 28 per cent, slicing $48,000 of their electricity bill so far this year.
Low Carbon Australia developed a financing package to pay the $50,000 project cost over a longer timeline, making the project more achievable.
CYCC is paying back the cost of the project over five years through the savings they have made on their energy bills.
It shines the light on what is possible for clubs that would like to make immediate energy efficiency improvements.
“These are significant energy and cost reductions and the light levels have dramatically improved on all courts,” CCYC general manager Wayne Winiata said. “We should have done this sooner.”
