Which greenhouse gases will be covered?
The carbon price will cover four of the six greenhouse gases counted under the Kyoto Protocol: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and perfluorocarbons from aluminium smelting. The other two gases, hydrofluorocarbons and sulphur hexaflouride, and perfluorocarbons not from aluminium smelting will face an equivalent carbon price through existing legislation.
