The Australian Government has published draft funding guidelines for the development of carbon farming methodologies under the Methodology Development Program and the Research and Development Stream of the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund.

In July 2011, the Government announced funding of $19.6 million for the methodology development as part of the Carbon Farming Futures program. Part of this funding–$7.2 million–will be available as grants to develop methodologies for use under the Carbon Farming Initiative. The Government has also committed $5.2 million to support the development and implementation of methodologies that are likely to have high Indigenous participation.

Draft guidelines for both programs are now available for stakeholder comment. These guidelines are available on the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency’s website.

Stakeholder comments can be emailed to the program coordinators. For the Methodology Development Program please email: CFI.Methdevprog@climatechange.gov.au. For the Research and Development Stream of the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund please email: ICFF@climatechange.gov.au.

Comments on the guidelines will be received until close of business Friday, 4 May 2012.

The final guidelines for these programs will be released in May 2012 and applications will be open for one month.
