Timber company to take the axe to its carbon emissions
A sawmill in southern NSW aims to chop its carbon emissions and improve its energy efficiency with the help of a Government grant worth more than $8 million.
Dongwha Timbers sawmill in Bombala hopes to lead the way in energy efficiency and pollution reduction after it received an $8.2million grant under the Government’s Clean Technology Investment Program.
With this funding, the sawmill plans to reduce its carbon emissions intensity by more than one-third and improve the business’s energy efficiency by 60 per cent.
Dongwha will use the grant to consolidate its operations from two sites into one facility, and invest in new equipment and technology to replace carbon-intensive machinery.
The project is forecast to generate $200 million in business investment over four years, as well as hundreds of jobs and potential business partnerships throughout the local region.
The changes Dongwha will make as part of this project are good for the company, good for the community, good for the economy and good for the environment.
The $800 million Clean Technology Investment Program and the $200 million Clean Technology Food and Foundries Investment Program are funded by revenue from the carbon price and are supporting manufacturers across
Australia.
